I would like to take this opportunity to update you on the facilities needs of our schools. I am proud that Ontario-Montclair schools have a long-standing history of providing quality education to local students. However, our schools are aging and are now in need of repair and upgrades, including basic health and safety improvements.
Many of our schools were built decades ago and need significant repairs – including schools that are over 75 years old. We need to fix deteriorating classrooms, restrooms, and leaky roofs; replace outdated air conditioning systems; and remove asbestos and lead paint, so children can learn in a safe and healthy environment.
In order to address these needs, the Ontario-Montclair School District has been engaging community members about their priorities for our schools. Thank you to the almost 1,800 parents, teachers, and residents who have provided us feedback!
Top priorities for our schools include:
· Upgrading classrooms and labs
· Repairing aging classrooms
· Removing asbestos and lead paint
· Upgrading fire safety systems including smoke alarms/detectors
· Improving site security
· Retaining attracting quality teachers
This feedback is helping us to plan for the future and provide the quality education our students need and deserve. We will continue to update the community in the coming months. Please see below for additional information on school facilities needs.
