2014 Models of Excellence

   

   

Bill Ameeri attended Arroyo Elementary and Imperial Jr. High (now Wiltsey Middle School). Bill’s post-secondary education includes receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from Cal Poly Pomona. He is currently the Director of Information Services for OMSD and attributes much of his inspiration to his parents who modeled courage, hard work, and dedication. Bill is a state leader in instructional technology and is currently supervising OMSD’s three-year technology plan that will place our District on the cutting edge of 21st Century learning. For his dedication to OMSD, Bill Ameeri is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.

  

  

James Brulte attended Edison Elementary School and Vina Danks Middle School and has spent his career dedicated to public service. Jim spent 14 years as a senator in the California Legislature and has been a powerful advocate for education and the Ontario-Montclair School District. Jim continues to serve OMSD in many ways, including as a Pay it Forward mentor. For his dedication to OMSD, James Brulte is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, school, and community.



   

 Thê Michael Bui attended Euclid Elementary and De Anza Middle School and is currently a teacher at Edison Elementary. He remembers spending hours upon hours reading books in the library at De Anza Middle School and attributes much of his personal success to his amazing teachers in middle and high school. They opened doors of opportunity and believed in his potential as a student. Michael now pays it forward by serving as a teacher and cultivating the next generation of leaders. For his dedication to OMSD, Michael Bui is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.

Recently, Mr. Bui was awarded the California Association for Gifted (CAG) Distinguished Service Award.  CAG honors one member of the GATE community for going “above and beyond” in their contributions to the interests of gifted and talented children.   Congratulations, Mr. Bui! This is a well deserved recognition.


  

Keity Gomez attended Lehigh Elementary and Serrano Middle School and was involved in the AVID program in high school. Keity is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree at the University of Southern California, while serving as an AVID tutor with OMSD. As an undergraduate student at Vassar College, located in the heart of the Hudson Valley in New York State, she was a student leader and involved in organizations such as MeCha, Big Brothers and Big sisters. Keity’s commitment to service and academics is an inspiration to OMSD students. For her dedication to OMSD, Keity Gomez is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.


  

Hector Macias attended Mariposa Elementary School from kindergarten through 6th grade. In his current position as Executive Director of the Child Welfare, Attendance and Records Department/Human Resources at OMSD, Hector’s responsibilities are multi-faceted. During the last 22 years with OMSD, Hector has served tirelessly as an educator, leader, parent, friend, and advocate for students, families, and the community. As a proud father of 4 boys, Hector commits himself to excellence to serve as a role model not only for them, but for all of the students across the district. For his dedication to OMSD, Hector Macias is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.


Kevin Malson attended Edison Elementary and Vina Danks Jr. High and is currently a Senior Vice President for Bank of America. Kevin exemplifies his commitment to educational excellence, by serving as a Promise Scholars Business leader presenter and by inspiring the next generation of business professionals so they, too, will serve the OMSD community. Kevin is inspired by his parents who have recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. For is dedication to OMSD, Kevin Malson is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.

 

  

Lisa Martin attended El Camino Elementary School and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree at the University of Redlands. Lisa continues to serve the OMSD community as a volunteer for the Promise Scholars program and by encouraging students that they CAN achieve their educational goals. Lisa has been instrumental in helping implement and support curriculum that shows that college is attainable for all children. For her dedication to OMSD, Lisa Martin is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.


 

Josie Mejia attended Sultana Elementary and De Anza Middle School, and is currently the Executive Assistant for Child Welfare, Attendance and Records Department/Human Resources at OMSD. Josie is inspired by her family and strives to be a better person each day. Recently, Josie received Congressional recognition for her work with At-Risk youth as well as having received an award by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools for her
professionalism and dedication in serving the students and communities of OMSD. Both of Josie’s daughters are OMSD alumni and her husband is part of the Edison Elementary School family. For her dedication to OMSD, Josie Mejia is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.


 

 

Karen Neiuber attended Euclid Elementary, Central Elementary and Vina Danks Middle School and after receiving her teaching credential returned to serve the community of OMSD as a teacher, curriculum coordinator and parent. Karen recently retired from OMSD. Her belief that one should never underestimate the power each individual has to make a difference in another’s life and her lifelong commitment to educational excellence is evident of this belief. She takes pride in being able to mentor people like Hector Macias who was her student nearly 40 years ago. For her dedication to OMSD, Karen Neiuber is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.

Brian Oliva attended Margarita Elementary School and Serrano Middle School and is currently a faculty member at Azusa Pacific University. As a talented poet, Brian is dedicated to developing the next generation of poets and artists. He has been instrumental in celebrating OMSD’s writers and poets through his work with the District’s Poetry Day. For his dedication to OMSD, Brian Oliva is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.

 

Gary and Sue Ovitt are tireless community leaders. Gary attended San Antonio Elementary School through 5th grade and was in the first graduating class at Hawthorne elementary, while Sue attended Central Elementary from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Both Gary and Sue attended Vina Danks Jr. High. As champions for education and excellence, Gary and Sue have served on many levels of leadership. Gary has served on the City of Ontario City Council, as Mayor for the City of Ontario, County of San Bernardino Board of Supervisors, and other organizations. Sue currently serves as a Board of Trustees for the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. In 2010, the City of Ontario named the library “The Ovitt Family Community Library” in recognition of the many contributions made by Gary and Sue Ovitt. For their dedication to OMSD, Gary and Sue Ovitt are “models of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.


Jerry Rowley attended El Camino Elementary and Vernon Jr. High. Jerry is currently the owner of Logan’s Candies in Ontario, a business that has been in Ontario for more than 70 years. At the age of 12, Jerry started working at Logan’s Candies and eventually became the owner. Jerry is proud of the craftsmanship and care he and his staff put in all of their handmade made gourmet candies and in providing free tours to students and the public while explaining the candy-making process. For his dedication to the OMSD, Jerry Rowley is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.

 

Pete Watson attended San Antonio Elementary School and is currently the Senior Executive Director of Marketing and Professional Relations with Standards Plus. He has worked for over 30 years in education as a teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal at elementary and middle school levels, Pete retired as Superintendent of the Upland Unified School District where he was also the Assistants Superintendent of Business Services and Director of Curriculum and Instruction,. In his life-long dedication to education, Pete has continuously shared his passion for learning and inspired children to learn and achieve. Pete continues to be a powerful supporter of educational excellence and is dedicated to the success of the district. For his dedication to OMSD, Pete Watson is a “model of excellence” for OMSD’s students, schools, and community.
